Powerscour­t School 200th Anniversar­y: Powerscour­t National School is celebratin­g its 200th anniversar­y this month, which is a wonderful achievemen­t. For almost 195 years the school operated from the same building, making it the oldest continuous­ly used school building in Ireland. The school moved six years ago from the oldest school building to the newest and the first passive school building in Ireland. That has been a very successful move and the school has continued to grow and is heading for nearly 100 pupils, more than twice the size it was 20 years ago. The 200th celebratio­ns began last Sunday culminatin­g this Sunday – Pentecost Sunday – when the Archbishop will join us for an outdoor service followed by a Fun Family Day at Powerscour­t Church. There will be a 200th Celebratio­n Soiree in Powerscour­t House and Gardens this Friday from 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale from the school, or contact Adrianne Pullen at 086 8382594, Natasha Devereux at 086 1714905, or Grainne Austin

Kilbride Select Vestry: Kilbride Easter Vestry took place last month. The new Rector’s Churchward­en is Gordon Lennox; Jenna Rothwell is thenew People’s, and Terry Long is Glebewarde­n. The Select Vestry is Rory Connaughto­n, Claire Crowther, Stephen Crowther, Ruth Dodd, Conor Dorcey, Margaret Dorcey, Rachel Fraser, Jacinta Long (Hon treasurer), Anna Masterson, Georgina Masterson (Hon secretary), Etienne Murphy and Vivian Stratford.

Mothers’ Union – Christian Care for Families: A coffee morning and Plant and cake sale will take place at Powerscour­t Rectory on Saturday, May 26, from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. All welcome – please bring a friend. This is our only fundraisin­g event so we ask members, parishione­rs and friends to please come along and support us. We hope this will as enjoyable and sociable as it was last year.

We wish to thank everyone who donated to our Move In Start Up box. This will be delivered to our Diocesan Trustees, who will forward it on to Focus Ireland. Each branch is asked to supply one box per year and we are glad to be part of this excellent project.

ST MARY’S CHURCH

Sacrament of Reconcilia­tion – St Mary’s: Confession­s are held after 10.15 a.m. Mass on Saturday morning. Exposition of Blessed Sacrament after 10.15 a.m. Prayer Service each Friday morning. The Rosary is recited each morning at 9.55 a.m. in the Prayer Room. The Rosary Group meet on first Monday of each month.

Right to Life: The Statement of the Irish Catholic Bishops Conference on the right to life of the unborn child is available at the back of the church, please take one home.

The Rosary: Will be recited each morning at Our Lady’s Grotto in St Mary’s for the month of May. It will commence at 9.55 a.m. before 10.15 a.m. Mass/Prayer Service.

Kilmacanog­ue Parish Community: A meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 29, from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Parish Hall for parishione­rs of Kilmacanog­ue to discuss issues relating to the parish. Co-ordinators of the meeting will be John Welsby, Celia Flynn, and Fr Kennedy, PP All parishione­rs are invited to attend and if you cannot attend but would like to raise any issue please contact any of the above through the parish office.

Child Protection: Garda Vetting Forms must be filled out by all parish personnel and volunteers working with children and vulnerable adults. This is a legal requiremen­t. If you are a volunteer and have not received a form, please contact the parish office, who will forward same and will assist in photocopyi­ng your ID and required Utility Bill if you return form by hand.

Used Stamps: Barnardos Children’s Charity are looking for used stamps. The money raised through the sale of these stamps will go directly towards their work with vulnerable children here in Ireland. If you would like to leave your used stamps in an envelope in the basket at the back of the church we will forward them to Barnardos at regular intervals.

St Mary’s and St Gerard’s School car park: For security reasons the Enniskerry school car park must be closed after 11 a.m. Mass in St Mary’s. Can you ensure that if you are the last person leaving the car park after 11 a.m. Mass that you close the gate.

Bookstall: A bookstall has been placed in the rear of Enniskerry church to display suitable spiritual reading material. Please place money for books in shrines at back or front of church.

HISTORY SOCIETY

Meetings of the Enniskerry History Society, which meets under the guidance of its president John Callan, have now concluded and will resume in October when the autumn 2018 programme will take place, and planning on this is currently under way. All welcome – entrance €3; and tomorrow (Thursday) night’s 8 p.m. meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society devoted to ‘Printed in Bray: the history of the printing industry in Bray and County Wicklow’ with guest speakers, in the Royal Hotel, Main Street, Bray, Co. ENNISKERRY LIBRARY

Opening hours for the library are – Tuesday and Friday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. New members to the library are always very welcome. WALKING ASSOCIATIO­N

The Enniskerry Walking Associatio­n was formed in 2004 to protect traditiona­l walking routes in the area and to promote walking for recreation, for health, as a safe alternativ­e to car use, and to help us all to learn more about our locality.

Our popular Tuesday evening walks usually meet at the Spar in Enniskerry at 7 p.m.; Saturday walks meet at 1.30 p.m. All, who are interested, adults or children, are most welcome. Walks vary in length but most last between one-and-a half and two-and-ahalf hours; some (but not all) involve a bit of climbing. Please wear appropriat­e warm and rain-proof clothing, and proper walking boots for the occasional muddy or rocky track.

Note: we have made some changes to the informatio­n on this list of walks. Please read all informatio­n to avoid disappoint­ment. In the interests of walker’s comfort and safety participan­ts are asked to respect the directions of the walk leader and stay between the leader and the anchor person.
