Arklow girls through to All-Ireland boxing finals

-

TWO of Arklow’s top boxers, Amber Byrne and Tegan Farrell, won through to the Irish finals at the National Stadium next weekend with impressive wins in their semi final bouts on Friday night.

Amber faced Breda Quilligan from Rathkeale, who is current Munster champion with a reputation as an aggressive attacking boxer.

From the first bell the Rathkeale dynamo attacked but was caught with solid straight punches from slick Arklow boxer who shook the Munster champion and forced her on the back foot.

In the second round Amber scored with hard rights to take the first two rounds clearly.

In the third round the Munster girl was backing away that much that the referee told her to throw punches. Amber won clearly on all five judges cards.

Amber will now meet Maria Mongan from Jobstown in the final next Saturday.

Tegan was in with current Connaught champion Emily Gleeson from Elphin.

Tegan, who is a southpaw, caught Emily with solid straight rights to clearly win the opening round.

In the second round it was still Tegan’s counter-punching which shook the Connaught boxer.

In the third round Tegan got on top when both boxers went at it hell for leather but again it was Tegan who came out on top.

Tegan will now box Rebecca Hennessy Togher who is current Munster champion in the final next Saturday.
