Extra Gardaí to restore law and order in ‘Wild West’

May 2002

-

EXTRA GARDAI are to herald the return of law and order to a west Wicklow village.

The three extra gardai have been assigned to Dunlavin to put an end to the swelling crime wave in the community, described by one local business man as being ‘ like the wild west.’

Local traders, concerned about the spiralling rate of hooliganism and vandalism, laid the blame on the lack of full-time garda presence in the station.

At one stage there was a sergeant and three gardaí stationed in Dunlavin. Currently there is just one garda in the town. For operational reasons, even that Garda isn’t currently working in Dunlavin.

Following a number of meetings between residents and the Gardai, it has been decided to assign and sergeant and two gardai to the area.
