SCHOOL AWARDS’ DAY

On Friday morning, May 18, the whole school assembled for the annual Awards’ Ceremony. A host of student achievements, curricular and extra-curricular, were celebrated and honoured at this lovely, warm ceremony.

The ceremony afforded us an opportunity to reflect on the successes of the past year and to reward students for their achievements and leadership in areas of academic life, sport, art, music, culture, science, enterprise, public-speaking, to name but a few.

Sincere thank you to our guests of honour, Ms Nicola Lawless, Chair of the board of management and Mr Niall O’Connor and to our Master of Ceremonies, Mr Bosco Guinan. Well done to all who coordinated and participated in this wonderful event.

TY TRIP TO CARLINGFORD

A group of 54 TY students travelled to Carlingford for a two-day end-of-year trip. They took part in various activities like Kayaking, Laser Tag, Crystal Maze, Sky park and Nightline. It was a very enjoyable trip to end a fantastic year. The students were praised by the staff in Carlingford for their great attitude and behavior throughout the two days. Thank you to Ms Doyle and Mr Tobin, who accompanied the students on the trip.

MICROSOFT FINALS

The top performers in Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Exams in Ireland this year went through to the national final which was held in Ultra-modern Microsoft Headquarters in Sandyford on Friday, May 11.

Mark Britchfield and Jack Shanahan (Transition Year) were invited to attend as they were among the highest performers in MS Word. It was an action-packed day of MOS certification exams, workshops, coding in Minecraft and digital skills. Jack Shanahan performed exceptionally well (highest speed with 100% accuracy) and will represent Ireland at the MOS Four Nations in Design Museum London on June 22.

The prize for the three students at that final will be a trip of a lifetime to the MOS World Championship in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Orlando, Florida to represent the UK and Ireland. Well done to both Mark and Jack.

ATHLETICS

Another scorcher saw the Leinster Championships run under way in Santry Stadium. Aimee Bell King was unable to attend due to illness. Ewan Carr Culbert faced fine opposition and battled to fourth in the 100m while, finding a more relaxed balance in his 200m, he made massive ground to clinch third. An excellent achievement, but due to the hugely competitive nature of schools athletics at this level, only the top two from each province make the Eight Lane all-Ireland inal in Tullamore.

A big well done also to Finn Egan Barron, who battled to ninth place, as best he could after receiving an injury to his knee mid race. Thanks to all who assisted on the day, Emma Cruise and Dale Johnson Barker and those who supported, Siobhán Irons, Julie Carey, Caoilfhionn Ní Dhubhsláine, Malwina Wesolowska and Taylor Cahill. That’s it for Athletics 2018, we look forward to 2019.
