LADIES FOOTBALL VISITORS FROM THE U.S.

The visit of the Charlotte ladies’ Gaelic football team to Ireland is now under way. The group of 31 ladies landed at Dublin last Tuesday.

Charlotte are the current North American Senior Ladies’ football champions. This was a very significant victory as it was achieved with the help of just two Irish born girls, our own Aoife Kavanagh and Caitriona O’Shaughnessy. So Ashbourne, Co. Meath was the first port of call, as this is the home town of Caitriona.

A football game and trips to Newgrange and Trim Castle were on the cards and of course a trip to GAA headquarters was a must, with Trinity College and Guinness also on the itinerary. Craughwell, Co Galway is home to Kevin Devin, the founder of the Charlotte club, so.

Galway will host the group tomorrow Thursday and Friday, where another game will be played, and trips to Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher are on the agenda. Finally the group will arrive in Roundwood on Saturday evening and many thanks to the hosting families.

On Sunday a tournament will take place in Aras an Tochar at 2 p.m. with the local team hosting Clara, Co. Offaly and Shemaliers, Co. Wexford and of course our American guests barbecue will take place afterwards. So do come along and support all our visitors as well as our local girls. On Monday the group will visit Glendalough and maybe a trip around our ‘new walkways’ in Roundwood We hope you will give a great Cead Mile Failte to our Charlotte GAA champions when they land on our soil.
