CARTOON FESTIVAL

Join us this June Bank Holiday weekend for lots of fun for all the family at the Rathdrum Internatio­nal Cartoon Festival.

The Festival Opening will be performed by well known artist, writer and TV personalit­y Don Conroy at midday on Saturday, June 2, We have a great line up of workshops, artists, music and street events. Guests from 2000AD, The Beano, and Brown Bag Films among others will be presenting workshops. For full workshop schedule and details for registrati­on please see our Facebook page.

Other events taking place over the weekend include a funfair, craft fair, tarot card readers, dog show, drone demonstrat­ion, face painting, fancy dress and busking competitio­n.

Mundy and his band take to the stage at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, to close the festival. Please come along and enjoy the weekend’s events.

FESTIVAL CONCERT

The Festival Concert takes place in St Saviour’s Church, Rathdrum on Friday, June 1, at 7.30. Singers include: James Kinsella, Lesley Dowdall, Avondale voices, Liam Kinsella, John Nolan, John Brady, Derek McGraynor and Patricia Graham.

Tickets at €12 each are available at Centra, Avondale Sports or at the door.

WHIST

Results of last whist drive: Top Score – S Brady and M Whelan; second – M Murphy and G Curran; third – B Farrell and T McHugh; fourth – J Vickers and P O’Flaherty. Raffle winners – C Driver, N Vickers and P O’Flaherty. Next whist drive will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 8.30 p.m.

FESTIVAL BINGO

In conjunctio­n with the Internatio­nal Cartoon Festival the RDA will hold a special festival bingo on Friday, June 1, at 8.30 p.m. in the RDA Hall. Extra prizes making it the biggest prize money so far this year.

THURSDAY WALKS

Last week brought 24 walkers to the Ballinderr­y Loop on a lovely sunny evening and the scenery was magnificen­t in the evening sunshine.

This week’s takes us to the ever popular Deputy’s Pass Loop meeting as usual in the Parnell Memorial Park for 7 p.m. and start point for 7.15 p.m.
