Music group receive funds for instruments

-

WICKLOW music group Music Together received €842 in funding under the Music Capital Scheme last week.

The funding, which was announced by Music Network, is designed to provide support for the purchase of musical instruments, and to respond to a broad range of capital needs within the music sector in Ireland. A particular area of difficulty for musicians and ensembles is purchasing musical instruments. The cost of instrument purchase, maintenance and repair can be significant barriers to the development of many organisations and this scheme aims to address this.

Run by Greystonians Marion Smith and Andy Smith, along with Jose Roberto Munhoz, Music Together Ireland was founded in 2006. It is a voluntary group aiming to provide learner musicians who have a disability with an opportunity to perform in the wider community.

Workshops are designed to be fully accessible, bringing out the performer in everyone. They are facilitated by professional tutors in voice work, percussion and songwriting. Music Together stages public performances each year in the Dublin/North Wicklow area.

Minister Josepha Madigan said: ‘ The Music Capital Scheme is a fantastic initiative which has benefited thousands of people since the scheme was set up in 2008. The Music Capital Scheme is a key resource for musical groups and talented musicians. I am very pleased that my Department is once again in a position to support the scheme and I wish all of the musicians involved every success with their future musical endeavours.’
