Slow Down Day detects speeding

GARDAÍ in County Wicklow detected a number of speeding motorists during National Slow Down Day, a nationwide awareness day which took place on Friday and Saturday.

National Slow Down Day was held over a 24 hour period between 7 a.m. Friday 25 and 7 a.m. Saturday 26. In total, An Garda Síochána and GoSafe checked 132,188 vehicles, detecting 211 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

A number of detections were made in County Wicklow including a vehicle travelling at 71km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the R755 Ashtown/Ballinafun­shoge road near Roundwood and at 115km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N11 at Timmore, Newcastle.

Chief Superinten­dent Finbarr Murphy, Roads Policing Bureau said ‘On behalf of An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority I wish to thank all the road users who were involved in and supported this campaign. Drivers, please, think about the consequenc­es of speeding the next time you get behind the wheel and reduce your speed accordingl­y.’
