Sunbeam takes over Dignity Packs as Molly off to Canada

- By MARY FOGARTY

AS Dignity Packs Ireland founder Molly Comish moves to Canada, a Sunbeam House day service in Bray is taking on the mantle to keep creating the packs for homeless men and women.

The last two years have been an extremely exciting time for Molly who started Dignity Packs in October 2016. The operation started out small, with only 30 Dignity Packs planned. However, to date over 1,500 packs have been distributed to homeless men and women across Ireland and the UK. Some even made their way to India and Germany.

During that time, Molly did her Leaving Cert and completed a secretarial diploma and is now heading into another exciting phase in her life as she moves to Canada for a few years.

Dignity Packs had such fantastic support from people that Molly did not want it to just disappear so she is very excited to announce that Sunbeam House has agreed to take on the project.

Over the next few weeks, Molly and the team in the DCB (Dargle Community Base) will be doing a handover and Molly will be introducing the team to her contacts, supporters and friends. More rucksacks have been ordered so new Dignity Packs can be created in the coming months.

‘I cannot think of a better group to carry on Dignity Packs – a group that is embedded in the community and a team of people who will put love and effort into the project,’ said Molly.

Meanwhile, those at DCB are looking forward to doing their bit to help those in need.

‘It’s great that Molly is teaching us how to care for people who are living on the streets. I feel sad that there are people and families living on the streets and so I can help them to give things that we have,’ said service-user Tina Larken.

‘When we met Molly in DCB, I thought she was nice, caring, the way she helps people living on the streets. It makes us think what we have that they don’t have. It’s great being part of the project because it makes you appreciate the good work she is doing,’ said DCB service user Catriona Reynolds.

Monique Jolly, a community support worker at DCB, said: ‘Service users and staff in DCB are very excited to be taking on this worthwhile project. At the heart of Sunbeam House Services, our ethos is one of community, inclusion, collaboration, empowerment and caring for all. This project fits perfectly with what we’re about and supports our service users in achieving goals and giving back to the community in a way that addresses a social need.’

As Dignity Packs moves into this new phase, Molly would like to thank all the amazing individuals and companies around Ireland and in the UK who have supported her through their donations and production line events and hopes that this support will continue under the leadership of Sunbeam House because everything remains the same. She hopes to start a similar project in Nova Scotia once she is settled.
