Recognition for the year’s achievements
All of the students at Loreto made their way to the Holy Redeemer church last Wednesday for the presentation of the end-of-year awards.
The school principal Emma Raughter made a speech, as did head girl Roisin Martin, prefects Ellen Reidy, Eabha Dunne, Shona McKenzie, and student council members Hannah Salmon and Roisin Hiney.
The girls spoke on a range of topics including social awareness, sport, culture, environment, and the highlights of the past school year.
The speeches were very well received and received huge rounds of applause. There are currently 792 students attending Loreto.
The awards themselves recognised academic ashievement, academic endeavour, school involvement and extra-curricular activities.
There was a lovely atmosphere on the day, enjoyed by both staff and students.
There was also a handing-over ceremony by senior prefects to the girls in 5th year who will take on the positions in September.
Each year a student is awarded the special ‘Kathleen Smith Award’, honouring a former principal.
The award is voted by the students, and presented to a person who has the same attributes as Kathleen Smith who was kind, caring and loyal.
