Wicklow athletes enjoy Limerick
THE Aldi National Finals were held in the new venue of University of Limerick last week and the children who represented Wicklow enjoyed the experience immensely.
The Garden County were well represented in many events: Debating, quiz, cross country, swimming, art, handwriting, model making, and talent
The children gave it their all in the hope of winning a medal in any colour and a lot of children made finals and were just outside getting on the podium.
Congratulations to Kate Burton Stafford from Enniskerry who won bronze in swimming under-16 freestyle while fourth place in the under-8 girls freestyle went to Christina Miller from Roundwood.
Sarah Thompson from the Ashford/Glenealy club claimed third in the under-16 solo music competition.
Westside’s Rachel Coyne nailed fourth in the under-16 solo singing.
A third spot in the girls under-12 cross country mixed distance relay team event went to Abbey Doherty (Baltinglass), Ciara Colohan (Rathdrum), Isabella Doyle (Aughrim/Annacurra),Sarah Doyle (Aughrim/Annacurra), Mary McElhinney (Ashford/Glenealy),and Maria Zabahorenka (Rathdrum).
Wicklow Community games sincerely thanks all the county managers of each event who looked after the children in Limerick and the parents and areas for their continued support.
The next big event on the calendar is the Glendalough Hotel Track and Field championships in Shillelagh in early June
