Welcome news for Bray TV viewers
June 1986
PIPED television reception in Bray is set for a major improvement later this year.
For the town is to be ‘plugged in’ to the cable system in greater Dublin where the quality of reception is much higher than that in Bray.
And the development over the next few months also means that local viewers will be able to share in satellite television which is to be transmitted from next October if the government grants a broadcasting licence.
The satellite television will be beamed to homes on a pilot basis initially, with viewers receiving a selection of programmes from up to 16 international stations on one channel for a six month period.
Behind the plans are Cablelink, a company formed from a merger of RTE Relays and Dublin Cable Systems last November.
Under present arrangements Bray would not benefit from the project as the town receives signals from a communal aerial in the town and is not linked to Dublin.
This week however, Cablelink’s Service Manager said that they are planning to run a cable to Shankill via Bord Telecom links.
