Garda investigation after shots fired at a family home in Shankill
ADULTS AND THREE CHILDREN INSIDE WHEN GUNMAN OPENED FIRE
Gardaí are investigating after shots were fired at a house in Rathsallagh Park, Shankill, on Friday night.
A number of adults and three children were present at the house on Friday night, according to gardaí. Nobody was injured in the incident.
Several shots were fired into the porch of the house at approximately 11.30 p.m.
It is understood that all members of the family were in bed at the time.
Residents of Shankill were disturbed by the noise of a number of loud bangs, as well as the garda helicopter and patrol cars as a hunt got under way for the gun man.
The search took the helicopter around the vicinity of Shankill, including along the cliffs and the car park of a supermarket as well as outer regions such as Ballybrack, Bray and Loughlinstown.
Gardaí also searched an area of hedging in efforts to find the weapon.
No arrests have been made at this time.
A forensic examination of the scene was conducted on Saturday.
Cllr Denis Callaghan, also a resident of Rathsallagh Park, said that members of the community are shocked that such an incident would happen at a family home, in an established community like Rathsallagh.
He said that residents are trying to just get on with it, and hoping that it was an isolated incident.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the shots fired last weekend to get in touch with Shankill garda station on (01) 6665900 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
Their investigation will include any possible motive for the attack.
