Cosy Corner offers students healthy snacks and TLC

-

AT St Kilian’s Community School, the principal John Murphy decided to put an initiative in place to look after the pupils as they sit the state exams.

In the ‘cosy corner’, students can avail of fruit, water, tea or coffee and toast, and most importantly a bit of TLC from Noreen Scanlon.

Noreen runs the school canteen throughout the year, and takes over the cosy kitchen at exam time. ‘ They’re coming in from 8 in the morning,’ she said.

‘I get on great with all of them. They’re great kids. They don’t really want anything really heavy to eat, it’s mostly the cosiness of it.

‘One of the lads did a poster for the door. They come in and you can see the difference in them. They unwind, they relax and have a chat.’

Year head Helen Dodd was also there in the cosy corner to provide support to the outgoing sixth years.

‘ They can get something healthy at breaktime, and the opportunity to have a chat, a nice calm environment, and have them all in a good space going in to do their exams. That’s what it’s all about.’

Noreen said that an amazing amount of fruit and water goes out in the day. ‘ They’ll have a chat, maybe discuss the paper and go over exams. It’s their own little place,’ she said.
