Lowe is guest of honour
DARTS players from all over Wicklow descended on the Woodpecker bar and lounge in Ashford last Thursday night for the annual awards presentation night. Threetime World Champion John Lowe was in attendance to present the awards.
A fundraiser for the Make a Wish foundation was also run on the night by county secretary Mick Lott and his team of Stacey Hollingsworth and Karen Murrey. 20 players took on Lowe and the man who the legendary Phil Taylor says has the greatest action in the game showed class is permanent with a masterclass in scoring and finishing. He made time for all his fans and proved to be the gentleman he is portrayed as.
A singles competition ran concurrently with Rathnew’s Pat ‘Bomber’ Murphy defeating Glenmalure’s Shane ‘Logger’ Byrne in a top-class final.
Mick Lott, speaking afterwards, said, “It was a super night for an excellent charity, a pleasure to raise €1,555 for such a worthy cause. Special thanks to Stacey and Karen for all the work they put in behind the scenes also the local businesses such as The Woodpecker, Kelly’s Trophies in Bray, The Glenview Hotel, Kevin Devaney (INDO secretary) and Lough Cabin Glendalough”.
Reflecting on the year in general, Lott added: “We as a committee would also like to thank all the players for a great year. It was tough going but was definitely a case of quality over quantity as despite being down in numbers the standard was on a whole new level for the league. Many thanks to all the local publicans for their continued support. Champions for the year Division 1
