The local history society in Kilmacanogue wrapped up another wonderful season this weekend when they held their annual trip. The day included a visit to Tintern Abbey OPW and Colclough walled garden run by Coillte.

The group headed off from Kilmacanogue just after 9 a.m. with 55 people all in good form in glorious sunshine and on arrival, they had tea and coffee and delicious scones and relaxed till they done the conducted tour of the Abbey which was very interesting then everyone made their way to the totally organic walled garden which all loved and the information from the gardeners as to how they use the water to grow the plants and herbs. More time to mix and chat and more tea followed before spending a total of three and half hours there, then onto the coach and off to Hook head Lighthouse where about 15 of our group did the tour of the lighthouse, back to our airconditioned coach, back to the Courtyard restaurant in Ferns where the party enjoyed a lovely meal.

The long journey for home came all to soon but the party had a truly happy day with a lovely group of people who some were meeting for the first time and maybe new friendships made. Thank you all for being so punctual and the organisers and committee hope to see you all in October when the autumn series of talks start.
