SUGARLOAF STREET FEAST
RESIDENTS of Sugarloaf Crescent were among those to hold a ‘Street Feast’ at their estate on Sunday, June 10.
The day included food and drinks, games for the children, and plenty of community spirit.
Neighbours got the chance to catch up and reconnect over a bit of lunch in the sunshine.
Street Feast is Ireland’s annual say of street parties and community lunches. This was the ninth year of the initiative.
Partners this year included ChangeX.org, Scouting Ireland, Irish Men’s Sheds Association, GIY Ireland and Volunteer Ireland.
A group of volunteers founded the idea in 2010, growing to a team of coordinators, advisors and volunteers. Founders included Craig and Sam Bishop of Newtownmountkennedy.
The idea was conceived as its founders tried to figure out how to reduce isolation and boos community resilience.
The Sugarloaf Crescent crew enjoyed some of the recent fantastic weather for their event.
Party packs were sent to the organisers, including buntin, balloons, inites, posters and an informational folder, as well as a downloadable guide with loads of hints and tips.
Local councils all over Ireland funded party packs to facilitate Street Feast.
