Our three lads, Jack Cotter, Aaron Curran and Conall O’Gallchobhair were key players on this team and represented us very well. Special mention must go to Conall for the quality of his performances at full-back, especially since he’s being playing two years above his age.

On Tuesday, June 12, our White team played Coolkenno away.

The half-time score was Coolkenno 0-4, Blessington 0-2. Our girls came out much stronger in the second half and eventually got the scores back on level terms.

Our team pushed for the win but it was a game were the defences from both teams were on top in a low-scoring game and the game finished as a draw. Niamh, Ashling and Leila were the Blessington scorers. Thanks to the parents who travelled down to support our girls on Tuesday night. Final score: Coolkenno 0-5, Blessington 0-5.

On Thursday, June 14, our Blue team played AGB in their final game in Division 1.

Blessington went in at half time with a deserved lead of 2-0 to 0-1 thanks to two well taken goals by Sadhbh and a strong defensive display.

AGB started the second half strongly and the Blessington defence and midfield had to be at their best to keep them out, our girls then got on top in the final quarter with some great plays from Kayleigh O’N, Alana, Sophie and we ended deserving winners and are currently now joint top of Division 1.

Under-11s – Blue squad home to Éire Óg 1. Lads probably had best start of a game this year to date and played excellent football against the very strong wind and short passing was key to their excellently worked scores and they pushed on well in second half to win out well in the end.

White squad home to Ashford again started well and it was a very close game at half-time but after a great talk between players and coach really pushed on in second half with excellent play from all players and won out well at the end.

Red squad had short away trip to Lacken/Kilbride and played some excellent football throughout and came away with great win which is never most important part for all our squads development is key.

Thanks to Éire Óg and Ashford for travelling on very bad night of weather and thanks to Kilbride/Lacken for hosting.

Another epic encounter between these two committed teams. Western Gaels started well to lead at half-time, but with five minutes left Moorefield had come back very strongly to trail by only three points.

The Gaels held on to win in the end by 4-6 to 3-3 - in a terrific match.Blessington players on team, Oisin O’Neill, Frankie Kerr Gibbons, Max Kehoe, Senan Gardiner, Fergal Brogan, Luke Higgins, Dean Carey, Philip Hopkins and Thomas Walsh - Well done all.

The Junior ‘A’ football team, albeit weakened by injuries, suspensions and work commitments, went down to an impressive Baltinglass outfit in Division 3 of the football league on the Fairgreen on Tuesday last, June 12.

This following our defeat in the previous game versus neighbours Coolboymeans it’s understandable that the mood in the camp would be somewhat downbeat, but on a positive note the management team of Anthony Grey, Darren Kavanagh and Noel Murphy would have to be encouraged by the response of the players as the attendance and attitude at training on Thursday and Sunday last was impressive and hopefully this will be reflected in the next fixture versus Blessington, scheduled for Tuesday last, June 19, (report in next week’s notes), and on next Sunday morning, June 24, when the panel travel to take on Kilbride in the Division 3 Cup competition, throw in 11am.

Well done to Kate Butler and her Kilrush teammates who were crowned All-Ireland under-14 camogie champions at Féile last weekend, a fantastic achievement.

Kate, daughter of Ann and Pat Butler and of course granddaughter of Kathleen and Tommy Murphy, Millbank. Tommy would say the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Super stuff, Kate.

Well done to all our young athletes who once again were impressive when competing in the Wicklow Community Games finals on the Fairgreen on Saturday last.

Well done also and thank you to all the volunteers, young and younger who answered the rallying call from our eminent Chairman Mark Dempsey and turned out in force at the Fairgreen Clean Up last week, the result of their efforts were plain to see as our very own theatre of dreams looked fantastic on what is always a great occasion for the village. JUVENILE NEWS

The under-11 team emerged victorious in the top of the table clash versus Aughrim on Wednesday last, June 13.
