A HELPING HAND IN UGANDA

What makes life seem worthwhile are people who are willing to extend a hand, to give us that support when we are down, to help those of us who are less fortunate in their struggle.

Baale is a fishing village on the shores of Lake Victoria. It has a few brick-built houses, a couple of shops, and a pub, and a lot of wooden shacks. There is no quay or jetty, so the boats work from the beach.

UGA

Irish Project are those people, who at the end of June travel to Uganda to extend that very hand, and travelling with them are two Red Cross Volunteers from our very village and the community of Newtownmountkennedy wish Denise Commons and Megan Lynch bon voyage, in their quest to extend that helping hand.

Plenty of football last weekend as we edge ever closer to the summer break. Our 8’s travelled to take on Arklow Town and despite finding the going tough they acquitted themselves well. Among the players who starred were Colin Healy, Aaron Nolan and Nathan Donohoe. Our 9’s ended up with no game after their opposition failed to muster a team.

The 10’s (kindly sponsored by Real Debt Solutions) also travelled to Arklow where they edged out the home side in a cracking game of football. Ryan Collins signed off with a hat trick before he headed away on his holidays while Sebastian Anton and William Valentine scored a goal each. Best were Mikey Synnott, Aaron Roy and Kacey Kelly.

The 11’s had an off day at home to Enniskerry White in a game where the away side edged in front early on and Newtown despite plenty of goals on each side just couldn’t get their noses in front. The Newtown goals came from Jake Robertson two (1pen), Dylan Dunleavy and Brooklyn Doyle. On the day there were good performances from Cilia Coffey, Jack Daly and Cormac Chance.

The 12’s had a good 7-1 home win over Ashford Rovers, who to give them their due battled away till the very end. Pádraig Gammell scored a hat trick, Patrick Martin scored twice and there were singles for Aaron Cawley and Keira Farrelly.

The 14’s also had an excellent win at home, defeating Avonmore. Bobby Dowling scored a hat trick, Jason Carthy scored twice, while Charlie Sullivan, Adam White and Luke Breen added the others. Jamie Hamilton, Michael Byrne, Laragh Davis and Seán Bishop played well.
