ST ANNE’S PARISH

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday, (except during July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m.

Mass Time Change: From next Monday to the end of September there will be no celebratio­n of the Monday to Friday 7.30 p.m. Evening Mass.

Union of Catholic Apostolate – UAC.: The next meeting will take place on Monday, September 24, Peter’s Pence Collection: The annual Peter’s Pence Collection will take place at all Masses this weekend in place of the Share Collection. This annual collection goes to Rome where the money raised is used by Pope Francis to help those he feels are most in need or marginalis­ed in society today. It is the church’s way of carrying out Jesus’ wish for all of us to be the good Samaritan to our neighbour.

Graduation Mass for Sixth Class: Yesterday (Tuesday) Scoil Mhuire sixth class had their Graduation Mass at 11.30 a.m. in the church. Today (Wednesday) St Anne’s National School sixth class will celebrate their Graduation Mass at 6 p.m. in the church. We wish all the pupils and their families every blessing as they move on to Secondary School.

Film Night This Saturday: The June Film Night takes place this Saturday at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre when the film being screened will be the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical ‘Evita’ starring Antonio Barderas and Madonna. All welcome – admission free.

BOOK SALE

On Saturday, July 7, the next First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, so make a point of calling into it during that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the summer.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Last Saturday members of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack and surroundin­g area, were brought on a walking tour from Henrietta Street, Dublin, to Grangegorm­an via Broadstone, by Arran Henderson of Dublin Decoded. The tour commenced in Henrietta Street where Arran Henderson discussed the history and architectu­re of this street and the King’s Inns before passing through Broadstone to consider the history, architectu­re and archaeolog­y of the old Midland Great Western Station and the adjoining area. The 95-minute tour provided participat­ing members with insights into social, legal and penal history with informatio­n on Georgian and Victorian architectu­re, transport history, engineerin­g and urban archaeolog­y in addition to reflection­s on changing 18th and 19th century attitudes to welfare, poverty and crime.

In August the Society’s 44th summer Series of Evening Lectures will take place in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, at 8 p.m. nightly from Monday, August 13, to Friday, August 17, ICA Guild.

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NOTES

The juvenile Academy is in action every Saturday at 10 a.m. in Stonebridg­e Road. All equipment is provided free of charge and the cost is only €2 for each child. There is no annual subscripti­on. So why not come along and give the Academy a try. Many thanks to Sherry Fitzgerald for their partnering with our under-10 girls’ Football and camogie teams.

In last Sunday week’s ‘Chase the Ace’ draw in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner – the €50 prize went to Carol and Stephen Spain – last week’s jackpot was €650. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5.

Our golf classic is in Delgany Golf Club this Friday. The cost is €300 per team of four people which includes a meal in Brady’s and plenty of craic during the evening entertainm­ent. The time sheet is open now contact Jimmy Nolan at 087 2633203 to book your slot.
