30th La Touche Legacy and fes­ti­val of his­tory

The Launch of the 30th La Touche Legacy Sem­i­nar and 5th Fes­ti­val of His­tory took place last week in Grey­stones Golf Club.

‘It was with a lit­tle sad­ness the launch was tak­ing place with­out our hon­orary President Garech de Brun who passed away ear­lier this year,’ said fes­ti­val chair­man Ge­orge Jones.

Mr de Brun will be re­mem­bered at this year’s sem­i­nar, which takes place at Grey­stones Golf Club on Fri­day and Satur­day, Septem­ber 21 and 22. The theme for this year is ‘Evo­lu­tion of the Irish State – So­cial and Po­lit­i­cal’.

Rose­mary Raugh­ter, chair­per­son of Grey­stones Ar­chae­o­log­i­cal and His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, said: ‘We are very happy to see Rose­mary Cullen Owens speak­ing to the sub­ject of the women’s suf­frage move­ment and the Irish votes for the women cam­paign.’

Re­tired lawyer and judge Liz Goldthorpe will speak on Averil Deverell, a Grey­stones res­i­dent and first women to prac­tice at the Bar. Other lec­tures by Noel Camp­bell, Dr Martin O ’Donoghue, Felix Larkin will touch on the Irish Par­lia­men­tary Party, the Span­ish flu in Wick­low and the part played by Dublin opin­ion in the new Irish State with David McCul­lagh of Prime Time RTE speak­ing on Ea­mon de Valera.

St Kevin’s NS will pro­vide the dra­matic and mu­si­cal open­ing and Min­is­ter Si­mon Har­ris will be the din­ner guest speaker. The price is €30 for all lec­tures or €50 in­clud­ing din­ner. Call 01 2875678 or 01 2876694.
