ARP ST PATRICK’S 5-15 0-08

THE Arklow Rocks put on an extremely impressive team performance on Wednesday at Pearse Park to run out 5-15 to 0-08 winners over St Patrick’s.

The game got off to a fantastic start through John Cushe, who registered the first score of the game for the Rocks with a fantastic point in the first minute.

This lead was enhanced in the sixth minute with a point from energetic midfield player Shane Mellon.

After some good play from Cian Doyle and Jason Redmond the ball found its way to Mellon who struck a fine point high over the bar from just inside the Pat’s half.

Pat’s pulled a point back through Kevin Coady before the Rocks took control of the game yet again through Jason Redmond.

After John Cushe saw his effort saved, after being supplied from a great run by Conor Doyle, Redmond pounced to smash in the rebound to give the Rocks a clear advantage in the game.

Cian Doyle increased the home side’s advantage with a well hit point in the 12th minute.

An attempted pass was well intercepted by Doyle who struck a quick snapshot high over the bar from a considerable distance. More joy followed just a minute later for the Rocks as they registered goal number two through Chris Kavanagh after some very impressive play from Conor Doyle.

Doyle’s run took out multiple Pat’s defenders before Kavanagh slotted home into an empty net to cement the Rocks dominance.

Conor Doyle registered the score his performance deserved in the 16th minute as he struck a fine point from the right hand side.

The Cian Doyle and Jason Redmond partnership paid further dividends for the Rocks in the 20th minute as Doyle laid on the assist for Redmond to add another point to his tally for the day.

The Rocks were relentless and barely gave Pat’s a chance to breathe as they bombarded the visitors defenders with balls into the forward line. One such ball led to another score for John Cushe who struck the ball over the bar after claiming an impressive high catch over his marker. The Rocks dominance continued for the rest of the half allowing them to go in at half-time with a 2-07 to 0-03 scoreline over Pat’s.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first as the Rocks continued to dominate proceedings. Shane Mellon registered two points early on before Cian Doyle added another to the ever growing Rocks scoreline.

Further points came through Conor Doyle, Shane Mellon and Jason Redmond to really put the Rocks home clear of the visitors.

The good fortune would continue for the Rocks however as Jason Redmond found his second goal of the game with a sweetly struck shot from close in.

Cian Doyle added two more points to the scoreline to add more value to his very impressive performance before Chris Kavanagh added another goal after some good play from Eamon Doyle and John Cushe put Kavanagh through on goal to bury past the Pat’s keeper.

The Rocks continued their dominant performance and gave St Patrick’s no chance of a comeback as they registered a point through Kevin O’Reilly before Danny Curran scored a fifth goal for the Rocks to add the cherry on top of the cake for the home side.

The final whistle allowed the Rocks to celebrate a hard fought victory over St Pat’s.

This performance was exactly what was needed from the home side after last week’s loss and will give the Arklow Rocks a much needed boost for the rest of the Intermediate Championship season.
