Wicklow RFC teams getting back into action after break

WICKLOW RFCs Senior men and women’s teams get back to pre-season training this week.

The senior men start with a gym session in the club on Monday, July 16th at 7.30pm, followed by a squad meeting.

Training will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30 on the pitch.

Wicklow are delighted to welcome home Niall Earls and Charlie Butterwort­h to play at Ashtown Lane for the coming season.

The senior men finished fourth in Leinster League Division 1A last season and will look to further establish the club in the top echelons of Leinster Junior rugby.

They will take part in the All-Ireland Junior Cup for the first time in the history of the club. Wicklow will take on Munsters Kilfeacle in Wicklow on October 27th. Kilfeacle from Tipperary were losing finalists in the competitio­n this season.

In a crucial developmen­t for the long term future of the club Wicklow will be fielding an under 20s side for the first time in the club’s history.

Charlie Butterwort­h will be part of the coaching set up for the under 20s, bringing huge experience to the role.

Wicklow’s Senior Women are also back to training on Monday night at 7.30 and will train on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7.30 in the club.

The senior women will play in Leinster League Division 2 and will be hoping to mount a serious challenge for promotion in the coming season.

The Senior men and women’s teams and the under 20s are all looking for new players to join their respective squads.

Wicklow RFC have a busy August ahead with the annual Presidents BBQ on Saturday, August 18th and the annual Golf Classic in Wicklow Golf Club on Friday, August 24th.
