As the dust settles on the Wicklow minors’ wonderful journey, we thought it only fair to offer a small recap of the thoroughly deserved praise lavished on Kevin O’Brien’s young stars. Below is just a snippet of some of the congratulations offered.

Adrian Ryan: “What a super bunch of young men thoroughly enjoyed the journey they brang us on over the last few months with all games going to live long in the memory was a pleasure to be involved with these Wicklow u17. Sport is cruel but #futureisbright #Inches @wicklowgaa @BillHillWicklow”

Ciaran McGuirl: “Hard luck the @wicklowgaa minors last night. On another night a break of a ball going your way and you would’ve won. Each player should hold their head up high as they have made the whole county proud. Just look at the crowd you pulled in to @JouleIE Park

“Special mention must go to management and to the @ wicklowgaagca as this is the first team to go from 13’s through to minors in the program. I’d like to give a special mention to @ eoin_e (Eoin Phibbs) who started these lads off at u13’s

“There’s great work being done in @wicklowgaagca but it also shows that more investment is needed in the weaker counties by @officialgaa. Wicklow has 4 GDA’s for the whole county and they are worked to the bone. If counties like @wicklowgaa are ever going to compete they need ..

“More money pumped in to coaching throughout the county. Clubs are falling apart across the country at underage level as they struggle to get coaches and good coaches at that! The sooner both Wicklow county board and Croke Park realise the better @BillHillWicklow @Woolberto

“I’ve rambled on enough but my final big bear is @JouleIE Park being situated in Aughrim. What other county puts the county ground in a small rural town?? None is the answer. They’re all in large towns with 1) good access routes 2) accommodation for away fans

“3) a large population to feed attendances. It beggars belief that for a u17 match the game is delayed because the car park is full and there’s nowhere else to park. 3 primary routes leading to it congested. Slán agus Chill Mhaintáin Abu”

Kevin Darcy: “Hard luck to the wicklow minors last night hold yer heads up high lads yea have done your county proud and given us some great memories”

Bill Hill: “Heartbreak for these lads as Kildare progress with a two point win! These lads have made a County so proud and were rightly given a standing ovation by a huge Wicklow support. Amazing bunch and our future is very bright #GAA #GaaThisIsMajor”

Ewan McKenna: “Incredible attendance. Saw photos last night. Keep her lit, so much potential in the team but also and crucially in the county.”

Tori Doyle: “Well done to that team of fine young men. They did themselves and the county very proud.”

Willie Cullen: “Well done lads . Heads up and wear the senior jersey with pride . Bright future ahead ..”

Gillan Murphy: “Hard luck to Wicklow. Yee gave us two brilliant games. Lots of great young Wicklow players coming through.”

Bronwyn Walsh: “Hard luck lads. The best bit of excitement in the county since the Micko years.”

Aoife O’Neill: “Lads were in hard luck tonight. Great game of football again. Two good teams.

Very proud of these lads.”

Christopher Fox: “Every kid in the place wearing a Wicklow top seeds are sown for the future great bunch of players inspired the county”

Gerry Walsh: “The lads were most unlucky to lose out in a hugely entertaining game. Important now to keep the group together and focus on future challenges..Well done to all involved with this team.Keep up the good work.”
