QUEEN OF PEACE ADVENTURE YOUTH CLUB

Summer plans include a trip to Clara Lara Fun Park and a camping trip to the Hidden Valley. In addition to the normal water sports programme three members are enrolled on a snorkel training course which includes rescue learning.

Seacrest residents have a co-ordinator who is keen to maintain the shrubs in the estate in good condition. This requires volunteers. Anyone can help by calling into Andrew Lindsey at number one, and joining his gardening group.

Due to the present sea calmness and clear under water visibility Bray Divers Sub-Aqua Club are making the most of it while it lasts. Year to date 75 dives have been organised locally, nationwide and abroad. To encourage new members the club is offering the cheapest membership and training package in the country. For details about their tailor made courses to suit trainees call Albert at 087 6756439, and you could be a diver within a few days.

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday, July 27, in Byrne and Woods at 1.30 p.m.

BLESSING OF GRAVES

The annual Parish Cemetery Sunday/Pattern Sunday will take place on Sunday, July 22. Please note that 11.30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated in Roundwood Cemetery not in the church on this morning. This Mass will be offered for all interred in the cemetery and will include a blessing of the graves.

PATTERN DAY

The annual Pattern Day Walk from Moneystown Community Centre to Lady’s Well Ballymanus Upper on Carrick Mountain will take place Sunday, August 19, leaving Moneystown at 6 p.m. The route is five and a half miles in total (good walking shoes recommende­d and no dogs allowed). Suitable for older children accompanie­d by adults.

The route is along the road and then on Coillte roads. Lady’s well is an ancient holy well that is marked on the Neville Maps of 1760 as an important site. The well was rediscover­ed in 2013 and there has been a walk every year on or close to the original pattern day August 15.

There will be a short talk on the history and traditions of the holy wells and also relevant local history. If you want to play music, read a poem or sing a song feel free to join in as singing, dancing etc were all part of the traditions of pattern days and visits to the well. NATURE WALKS

Join the Wicklow Mountains National Park Guides on a children’s nature walk at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays in July and August to explore various aspects of the National Park. Suitable for all age groups. An adult must stay with their children and be prepared to join in. No booking or charges apply. Meet at the Informatio­n Office near the Upper Lake in Glendaloug­h. ROUNDWOOD FESTIVAL 2018.

Plans are well under way for the return of the much loved Roundwood Festival 2018 running from Thursday, August 2, to Sunday, August 5. So keep these dates free and keep and eye on this space for more details of what’s on and where.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT HOLIDAY

The Roundwood Active Retirement holiday will take place from the Monday, September 24, till the Friday, September 28, to the Tara Hotel in Waterford.

AN AFTERNOON WITH MARY DAVIES

Mary Davies is a renowned author, gardener, historian, books editor and a former resident of Oldbridge.

She has written extensivel­y over the years about the wonders of Wicklow of times past and present. As part of the Baltynanim­a Pure Mile, we are delighted to include this event where Mary will read a selection of her writings about Wicklow and there will be an opportunit­y for the audience to ask her questions. The talk will start at 3.30 p.m. in Roundwood Parish Hall on Saturday, July 21, and will finish by 5 p.m. This is a free event. All welcome.

OUR LADY’S ISLAND

There will be a pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Island on Sunday, August 19, leaving Roundwood at 10 a.m. from the Parish Hall. Cost is €65 per person which includes the bus, scones and dinner. Money and names to Susan at 087 76273032 before August 1.

MUSIC IN CALARY

The next concert in Calary Church will take place at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, when Lorna Breen (soprano), Andrew Gavin (tenor) and Mairead Hurley (accompanis­t) will perform opera arias, Irish airs and pieces by Gilbert and Sullivan. Lorna is an accomplish­ed young soprano from County Wicklow.

This concert is being held to raise much needed funds to support Sister Mary Killeen’s work for street children in the slums of Nairobi and there is the option of a delicious supper in the church room before the concert starts.

The supper will begin at 6 p.m. and the concert will start at 8 p.m. Tickets for the supper and concert are €40, while those for the concert on its own will be €18 and €15 for concession­s and cam be booked from John 01 2818146 or by emailing derekneils­on@eircom.net.

WALKING GROUP

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group will now meet at the Knockrahee­n entrance (Newtown Road R765) to the Upper Vartry Reservoir at 7 p.m. every Wednesday for the summer months.
