BRAY AIR DISPLAY IS READY FOR TAKE-OFF

MASSIVE CROWDS SET TO FLOCK TO BRAY THIS WEEKEND FOR THRILLING DISPLAYS

THE countdown to this year’s Bray Air Display is well and truly underway with just days to go to Ireland’s biggest and most popular aerobatics display.

High-speed, powerful jets and venerable, vintage aircraft will take part in a display which is supported by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA).

The spectacula­r air show will feature more than 40 aircraft flown by the most skilled and expert pilots from across Ireland and Europe.

The world famous Red Arrows, one of the most skilled and accomplish­ed teams on the global circuit, will headline Bray Air Display on Sunday, July 29.

Peter Kearney, Chief Executive of the Irish Aviation Authority said: ‘ To watch the Red Arrows perform live really is something special. It’s a testament to the calibre of Bray Air Display that some of the best teams in the world will be taking part. The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), with its central role in the promotion and developmen­t of aviation in Ireland, is delighted to be supporting this event, enabling the high quality and spectacula­r displays that we will see during the Aviation Ireland weekend.

The line-up is very exciting; the IAA is looking forward to a truly special, memorable and safe Aviation-Ireland weekend.’

This will be the 13th annual Bray Air Dis- play. The free, family, fun-filled event has won numerous awards including ‘Best Festival/Event Experience over 50,000 people’ at the prestigiou­s Irish Tourism Industry Awards 2017 and silver in the ‘Best Tourism Initiative’ category at the All-Ireland Community and Council Awards 2018.

The event has soared in popularity in recent years with 140,000 people making their way to the seaside town of Bray to marvel at amazing aerobatic displays.

Gardai, Wicklow County Council and event organisers have been planning for many weeks to put a robust traffic management plan in place with the aim of minimising disruption for local residents and getting people in and out of Bray as quickly and efficientl­y as possible.

On Saturday, the following roads will be closed; Strand Road; Albert Avenue; Sidmonton Avenue and Convent Avenue. There will be restrictio­ns on the surroundin­g roads including Seapoint, Quinsboro, Novara Avenue, Meath Road, Sidmonton Road, Putland Road and Newcourt Road.

On Sunday, the following roads will be closed; Strand Road; Seapoint Road; Quins-borough Road east of car park; Novara Avenue east of BIFE (St Thomas’s school); Vevay Road to Putland Road; Newcourt Road and the Lower Dargle Road. There will be traffic restrictio­ns on the following road; Herbert Road; Boghall Road; Castle Street; Dublin Road and Bray’s Main Street

Southbound traffic on the Main Street Bray shall be diverted via Killarney Road. Southbound traffic on Vevay Road will be diverted via Killarney Road or via O’Byrne Road to Boghall Road and Killarney Road.

A number of ‘Park ‘n Ride’ car parks will be available for visitors over the two day event. Organisers are making every effort to encourage visitors travelling by car to the display to use these facilities. However, the strong message to those planning on attending the event is to use public transport, allow extra time for the journey and plan to arrive early.

Sé Pardy, Director of Bray Air Display said: ‘ The Bray Air Display is now firmly establishe­d as one of the best family events of the summer. We’re expecting big crowds in Bray to enjoy the spectacula­r display so we are advising people to plan their journey in advance and arrive early to really enjoy the day.

A family fun fair, live music and a food and craft market will be in situ from 12 noon each day so there’s plenty to enjoy before the aerobatics gets underway.’

Bray Air Display will kick-off at 3.30 p.m. on the Saturday and 2 p.m. on the Sunday.

Saturday’s display line-up will include: Irish Air Corps; The Black Knights; Make-A-Wish CAP 232 & the Flying Dentist; Catalina PBY-5A; Shamrock 1940 (DC-3); Gardaí helicopter; ‘ The Flying Cow’ Vans RV7 solo display (Gerry Humphries); Irish Historic Flight Foundation (Stearman; Irish Parachute Club; Richard Goodwin Airshows (Pitts special; Search & Rescue Coastguard; Royal Jordanian Falcons; ME109 & Mustang; Viggen Display and Strikemast­er Display.

In addition the above, Sunday’s display line-up will also include: The Red Arrows; Aer Lingus, Shamrock 1936; The Blades Aerobatic Team; Tranchant Jet Team (Fouga jets) and Irish Historic Flight Foundation (Chipmunks).

Aircraft line-up, air display, all ground events and activities are subject to change without notice and may be dependent on weather.

Bray Air Display forms part of the IAA’s Aviation-Ireland weekend that includes Foynes Air Show in Co. Limerick that will take place on Saturday July 28. The Aviation-Ireland weekend aims to highlight Ireland’s position as a true global aviation hub and as a nation of aviators and innovators.
