Council considing CCTV cameras Balywaltrim Playground equipment is damaged by blaze

-

THE council is looking into installing CCTV at Ballywaltrim Playground after equipment was destroyed in a fire last week.

The fire took place at the playground on Schools Road in the early hours of Thursday morning. Swing equipment and flooring was damaged. Garda Declan Lynch of Bray Garda Station said that they are investigating how the fire started, and not ruling malice in or out.

District Administrator David Forde said that the damage will be fixed. He does not have costings just yet. He said that the flooring had been repaired just days prior to the fire, because of another act of vandalism. Mr Forde said that there is a camera on Schools Road which is linked to the gardai, but it is moveable and not always trained on the playground. ‘We will have to look in to CCTV,’ he said. ‘And that’s yet another cost. But it’s just happening too often unfortunately.’

The cost of installing the camera will have to come from maintenance budgets which are there to ensure and improve quality of life and services for all residents of Bray.
