Trojan work by fire fighters is praised

-

A GREYSTONES resident has praised the members of Wicklow Fire Service for their Trojan efforts during the recent fire on Bray Head.

Former councillor Kathleen Kelleher said the efforts of the fire- fighters to contain the fire and save the houses on Bray Head was truly remarkable.

‘Being around Greystones town a lot, I could see just how hard the men were working, especially in filling the Greystones water tanker from the sluice valve at the entrance to Redford Park.

‘ They never gave up, not for a minute, working tirelessly night and day. The whole town watched as the fire spread across Bray Head that Friday and Saturday.

‘Everyone stopped, people at the harbour, people on the road at Windgates, to keep track of it. I went out Friday night to have a look at it in the dark And the fire was truly frightening, not just low lying flames.

‘Sheets of flame rising high up into the sky. You could see these dangerous flames more clearly in the dark.

‘While fascinating in a way, the devastation was shocking and we all came very close to a catastrophe.’

Kathleen extended thanks to the fire-fighters saying they had ensured everyone was safe.
