The search was stood down at midnight and the rescue boat returned to its base. The operation continued again on Sunday morning at 8.30 a.m. and also involved the sub-aqua club. However, the crew was stood down by gardai after searching for over an hour.

The Blessington Rescue Boat crew waited at the scene for the arrival of the Garda Water Unit and located the person not long afterwards.

The Gardai haven’t released any further details on the identity of the victim but it is believed he didn’t live locally.
