Michael Inside is a big success

-

THERE was a great turnout in Greystones last week for the special screening of Michael Inside.

Directed by Frank Berry, Michael Inside is one of the best-reviewed Irish films of this year.

Last Wednesday’s Greystones Film Club screening at the Whale Theatre was made even more special thanks to the presence of Mr Berry, who introduced the film.

Michael Inside tells the story of an 18-year-old Dublin man determined to not follow his dad into prison. However, holding drugs for a friend’s older brother changes all that – but will it change Michael McCrea’s life?

Director Frank Berry has long been fascinated with people who have fallen through the cracks, from 2011’s award-winning documentary, Ballymun Lullaby, to 2014’s I Used To Live Here, which follows a young teenage girl struggling with the death of her mum.

A hit at the Cork Film Festival and the Galway Film Fleadh, Michael Inside won Best Film at this year’s Irish Film and Television Awards.

Local filmmaker Kev Cahill’s short film More Than God was also screened on the night. Cahill handled visual effects on the recent Star Wars outings as well as Paddington 2 and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
