Éire Óg pull ‘A’ team

-

THEIR mounting injury list has forced Éire Óg Greystones to withdraw their Junior ‘A’ football team from this year’s championship.

Scheduled to play Newcastle in Pearse’s Park, Arklow, in their championship opener on Saturday evening last, the Greystones club handed their opponents a walk-over before revealing that they are no longer able to field three teams given the amount of injuries they have picked up in recent times.

Add to that the fact that the Junior ‘A’ football team were fixed to play Newcastle at the same time as their Senior squad were taking to the field against Hollywood in Joule Park Aughrim and it becomes clear that a stretched panel had absolutely no hope in filling the fixture in Arklow.

Éire Óg secretary Daniel O’Connor said that it was a ‘tough decision’ to disband the Junior ‘A’ team but that it was unavoidable give the injuries picked up by key players.

Daniel said that with the injuries to key players on the Senior team the club were then puling players from the Junior ‘A’ team to bolster the Senior panel and that it was decided that it was better to pull the Junior team now rather than go through the campaign giving walk-overs and struggling all the while.

It has also emerged that Coolkenno and AGB have withdrawn their teams from the Junior ‘C’ football championship.
