Gun terror at couple’s home
July 2008
Gardai say they are considering several theories as they continue to investigate a shocking shooting incident at the home of a Rathnew couple last Thursday night.
‘We haven’t ruled anything out,’ a spokesperson said this week. ‘ The incident is still under investigation. We are waiting for the results of the forensic examination.’
The couple, aged in their sixties, were in the sitting room of their home at The Bank in Rathnew when a shot was fired through the window at 11.30 p.m., smashing the glass and leaving them both extremely traumatised.
Fortunately though, neither of them were injured.
Gardaí have not yet established why their home may have been singled out for the gun attack, and say it may have been a case of mistaken identity.
Local officers sealed off the scene in the immediate aftermath of the attack, and a detailed forensic examination of the scene was carried out by experts on Friday morning.
Gardaí are hopeful that any witnesses may come forward and give statements to assist with their investigation. It also remains unclear how many people were involved and how they fled the scene.
