An Aughrim motorist was handed a prison sentence at Arklow District Court on Wednesday after he was convicted of driving without insurance for the sixth time.

Keith Croasdell of 19 Croghan View, Aughrim, was charged with driving without insurance at Vale Road, Arklow, on July 14, 2017.

The court heard that gardaí attended the scene of a road traffic accident where they met with the defendant who told them he had a tyre blow out which caused the car he was driving to overturn. There were no other vehicles involved.

Solicitor David Tarrant said that his 26-year-old client has turned over a new leaf since becoming a father and wants to mend his ways following 54 previous convictions. A five-month sentence was imposed.
