Just some information regards when all our teams will resume there on field action after the summer break.
Under-eights, 9s and 10s will return the weekend of September 9. and fixtures will be set till weekend 17th/ November 18.Where Leagues finish early as in end of Sep, start of Oct, the WDSL will look at a shield competition for these age groups. All Fixtures Competitive and Non-Trophy will finish weekend of 17th/November 18, followed by the WDSL Awards, Presentation Day in the Parkview Hotel Sunday, November 25 (details times etc to follow in Oct), under-11s Website has been updated with Champions League Groups (Format) Fixtures Set for Group Stages, four groups in each, top two in each group into Cup Quarter Finals, Bottom two in each group into Plate Quarter Finals. Group Stages will be Home and away Q/F, S/F and Finals winner on the day. (WDSL will look to run finals on neutral grounds) The WDSL will be hosting/running a number of invitational tournaments for different age groups over the summer and the details are as follows.
The WDSL will be Inviting DDSL teams, Carlow teams and Wexford teams to enter, there will be a limited number of places available so if interested clubs must put forward their interest sooner rather than later. Weekend of July 28/29 under-10s and under-12s Girls Blitz (seven aside) Girls born 2008 and 2006 Woodlands Greystones. Weekend of August 11/12 undereights/nines Blitz Tournament and under-10s/11s Blitz Tournament (Both seven-a-side) Celtic Park, Arklow. Weekend of August 18/19 under-14/15 Tournament Players Born 2004/2003 (Whitegates/Finlay Park Wicklow)
We had our ‘ Golden Goal’ coupons out for the World Cup Final between France and Croatia, won by the French on a 4-2 scoreline. The results were as follows: €60 – 18th Minute – Megan Ryan c/o Paul. €20 – 17th Minute – Paddy Kelly c/o Hughie. €20 – 19th Minute – John Dunleavy c/o self. Newtown Juniors will hope to run their popular Mini World Cup competitions in the lead up to the restart of the WDSL season.
We have only the one player from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and he is Bogdan Rusu from the under-14s team. Happy birthday Bogdan from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.
