MONEYSTOWN DANCE

The Wicklow Man will play in Moneystown Community Centre on Friday, August 10, from 9.30 p.m. till midnight. Tea served, refreshmen­ts also available asnd door prizes. Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing, jive linedancin­g etc. The Wicklow Man will also playon Friday, September 14.

ANNAMOE CENTRE

PATTERN DAY

The annual Pattern Day Walk from Moneystown Community Centre to Lady’s Well Ballymanus Upper on Carrick Mountain will take place Sunday, August 19, leaving Moneystown at 6 p.m. The route is five and a half miles in total (good walking shoes recommende­d and no dogs allowed). Suitable for older children accompanie­d by adults. The route is along the road and then on Coillte roads. Lady’s well is an ancient holy well that is marked on the Neville Maps of 1760 as an important site. The well was rediscover­ed in 2013 and there has been a walk every year on or close to the original pattern day August 15 There will be a short talk on the history and traditions of the holy wells and also relevant local history. If you want to play music, read a poem or sing a song feel free to join in as singing, dancing etc were all part of the traditions of pattern days and visits to the well. NATURE WALKS

Join the Wicklow Mountains National Park Guides on a children’s nature walk at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays in July and August to explore various aspects of the National Park. Suitable for all age groups. An adult must stay with their children and be prepared to join in. No booking or charges apply. Meet at the Informatio­n Office near the Upper Lake in Glendaloug­h. ROUNDWOOD FESTIVAL 2018.

Plans are well under way for the return of the much loved Roundwood Festival 2018 running from Thursday, August 2, to Sunday, August 5. So keep these dates free and keep and eye on this space for more details of what’s on and where.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT HOLIDAY

The Roundwood Active Retirement holiday will take place from the Monday, September 24, till the Friday, September 28, to the Tara Hotel in Waterford. Anyone interested should pay their deposit to Betty or Molly before July 1.

AN AFTERNOON WITH MARY DAVIES

Mary Davies is a renowned author, gardener, historian, books editor and a former resident of Oldbridge. She has written extensivel­y over the years about the wonders of Wicklow of times past and present. As part of the Baltynanim­a Pure Mile, we are delighted to include this event where Mary will read a selection of her writings about Wicklow and there will be an opportunit­y for the audience to ask her questions. The talk will start at 3.30 p.m. in Roundwood Parish Hall on Saturday, July 21, and will finish by 5 p.m. This is a free event.

OUR LADY’S ISLAND

There will be a pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Island on Sunday, August 19, leaving Roundwood at 10 a.m. from the Parish Hall. Cost is €65 per person which includes the bus, scones and dinner. Money and names to Susan at 087 76273032 before August 1.

POPE’S MASS

Roundwood Mini Bus Service Pope’s Mass in the Phoenix Park Sunday, August 26. If there is enough interest, I will put a bus on to the Phoenix Park. Please contact Gerry O’Toole at 01 2818561 before July 31 to put your name down. An update re prices and times etc will be issued after that date.

The next whist will be on Wednesday, August 1, in the Parish Centre.

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in last week’s draw. The numbers drawn were 3, 14, 18 and 24. There were six match-three winners, ER Fortune, L & M and C, P Mahon, Tom Kennedy, Joe Price and T Chadwick. Next week’s jackpot will be €17,800

WALKING GROUP

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group will now meet at the Knockrahee­n entrance (Newtown Road R765) to the Upper Vartry Reservoir at 7 p.m. every Wednesday for the summer months. There are now a range of walks to suit all levels of ability. So do come along to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour.

WOODPECKER TALK

In associatio­n with the Baltynanim­a Pure Mile, Annamoe resident Declan Murphy will give an illustrate­d talk on the Great Spotted Woodpecker. Declan has followed and studied this woodpecker species at great length in the local woodlands

which forms the basis for his sell out book ‘A Life in the Trees’. The talk will take place in Roundwood Parish Hall on Thursday, July 26, at 8 p.m. Children and adults most welcome.
