When English boyband Five (or 5ive as they prefer) teamed up with Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor to record a version of ‘We Will Rock You’ – almost nine years after the death of Freddie Mercury – it was not music to the ears of diehard Queen fans. Worse still, the Five version made number one in the UK, going one better than the 1977 original which had peaked at number two as a B side to ‘We Are The Champions’. The anthemic ‘We Will Rock You’ was written by May who deliberately kept it simple to appeal to a live, stadium crowd. The song was included on Queen’s hugely successful 1977 album ‘News Of The World’ which sold over 10 million copies across the globe.
