ALEX IS KING OF GREYSTONES FOR THE FIFTH TIME
TRIATHLETES braved the rain last Sunday for the King of Greystones event, in aid of the Gavin Glynn Foundation.
Alex Gray took the title for the fifth time, with Katie Verbruggen taking the Queen of Greystones crown.
A huge number of volunteers helped to make the event a success, with organisations such as Bray Wheelers, Wicklow Triathlon Club, Greystones Coast Guard, Poseidon Lifesaving Club and many others join- ing forces with the organisers. There was entertainment for children on the day with Jnr VIP Parties and Greystones Bouncy Castles.
Many other groups and organisations lent a helping hand. Around 450 athletes had trained for months to run, cycle and swim the course.
This was the 16th King of Greystones. Since its foundation in 2002 it has supported a number of causes including The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Aware, The Sam McMahon Trust and the Martin Codyre Fund.
For the past number of years, it has been run in support of the Gavin Glynn Foundation, which was set up in memory of local boy Gavin Glynn who passed away in October 2014. The foundation helps children with cancer and their families who need to travel overseas for treatment.
King of Greystones organisers are already planning the 2019 event.
