NEWTOWN

Newtown seniors had another disappointing loss against Blessington in the championship last Saturday.

It was hard luck for the lads who gave it their all and got the score line back to within three points close to the final whistle, however, Blessington scored a second goal leaving the final result of 2-6 to 2-12.

The next championship fixture is scheduled for Aughrim, 2pm, Sunday, August 5, against St Pats. It would be great to see a big crowd and give the lads full support.

The under-9s all performed well at a recent blitz in Bray and they all had a great evening. Their next blitz is on August 10 in Rathnew.

Well done to the under-15 boys team who had a comprehensive win over Blessington in the league on a scoreline of 8-9 to 0-10.

Our under-11 boys green team also had a super win over Aughrim while unfortunately our white teams match was cancelled. Both these teams have been putting in a super effort over the season.

The under-16 girls team kicked off their championship matches with a sensational win over AGB in Arklow coming away winners scoring 7-08 to 3-05.

The under-8 girls had a busy morning in Carnew partaking in a blitz, they played three games against two AGB sides and Carnew whilst the under-12 girls played against St. Laurences at home. Well done to both teams playing some great football.

Our under-10 girls travelled to Swords on Saturday morning where they took part in an under-10 annual tournament in Fingallians GAA.

The girls played Mattock Rangers from Louth, Dunsany Ladies from Meath and Lurgan Ladies from Cavan in what was terrible wet weather our girls winning all three matches. Well done, girls. Our under-13 hurlers took on St Pat’s Monday evening in the complex.

Unfortunately due to not fielding a full team, St Pat’s got the points before the match had even begun. That didn’t put our lads down though. With St Pat’s lending us three players, We dominated the first half managing to get some nice scores in.

Second half went a bit pear shaped with St Pat’s older and much bigger substitutes coming on...we didn’t stand a chance.

Some lovely hurling on show from our lads. Caleb fox and Conor Doyle getting some nice teamwork in and hand passing it back and forth to send the ball into Killian Foley in the forward line to make a cracking goal.

All in all, our lads were on a high coming off at the sound of the full-time whistle. Happy with their personal performances and to have played such an enjoyable game!

A huge thank you to Brian Gleeson and his lads who donned the green and white for us. It was very much appreciated.

Thanks again to Eugene Dunne, for sponsorship of the new jerseys which we wore with absolute pride!

To any parents who are concerned about their sons, the future of the team etc. Be assured that they are building themselves up in every match to be a stronger better team next year (once the growth spurt hits) what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!

Our under-13 footballers took on a very strong AGB side Tuesday night.

The boys unfortunately gave away a few early scores but with a few positional changes the boys ended the assault and started making a few attacks themselves. Noah Fahy, Caleb Fox and Kevin were key in the defence.

At the start of the second half both Jamie Townsend Doyle, Sean Dunne and Killian Foley continued the defensive effort and Dean White and Caden Dunne launched attacks on the AGB goal. Credit is due to our Laragh Players who between Aaron and Taylor got some nice points.

Finally well done to Brooklyn Busher who would put Courtois a run for his money

Under-11 footballers narrowly lost out to Enniskerry on a scoreline of 44 points to 43 points. From a very slow start the lads gradually grew into the game to take control of it but just came up short in the end. Nevertheless, It was a great team performance.

Standout players on the day were Jamie, Calem, Tyler, Alan and Oscar. Training continues every Friday 6-7pm.

Well done to all the under-7 and 9 hurlers who played Friday, in the hurling go games blitz in wet and blustery conditions in Carnew where Arklow Rocks and Carnew were the opposition. The guys played well and had some great tussles with the opposing teams.

The under-7 panel was Finn Keogh, Callan Keogh, Lila Smith, Oisin O’Toole, Aidan Kelly, Josh Porter, Zane Curran,Lucas Byrne Cahill and Dylan Ross

The under-9 panel was Shane Kennedy, James Turner, Tiarnan Byrne Cahill, Liam Smith, Harry Cullen, Kaitlyn Ross, Leighton O’Toole, Noah Porter, TJ Heffernan, Ava O’Connor, Cameron Byrne, Charlie Cullen and Conor Kelly.
