HELEN OFF TO MISS MACRA FESTIVAL

HELEN Clare of Johnstown/ Coolgreany Macra will represent Wicklow in this year’s Internatio­nal Miss Macra Festival.

The festival will take place over the August bank holiday weekend from Friday, August 3, to Monday, August 6.

Helen is a native of Rathpierce near Gorey and is a nurse but currently works as a student midwife in the national maternity hospital.

She started in Macra when she was 17 and was secretary of the club for two years, county secretary for a year and is the current club treasurer.

She won the drama all Ireland, came runner up another year and she was also a runner up in the debating. Helen has also previously won club and county member of the year in Wicklow.

Twenty-four contestant­s representi­ng 20 counties will travel to Tipperary to compete for the honour of being crowned Internatio­nal Miss Macra 2018, following on in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Lynsay Hawkes of Tyrone. Various fun activities will be taking place over a jam-packed weekend where supporters are always welcome.

On the Friday, a charity night takes place with all door proceeds being donated to charity.

On Saturday, the contestant will take to the stage in The Dome, Semple Stadium to be interviewe­d by Spin South-West DJ Valerie Wheeler followed by music from ‘ The Waxies’ and DJs.

On Sunday, a gala banquet will be held in the magnificen­t Anner Hotel, Thurles followed by music from ‘Silver Dollar’ and the crowning of Internatio­nal Miss Macra 2018.
