ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except during July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and amp;data= and then clicking onto video link.

Mass Time Change: Until the end of September there will be no celebratio­n of the Monday to Friday 7.30 p.m. Evening Mass.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Group: Operates Drop-In Centre in St Anne’s Resource Centre on the First Friday of each month at 10.30 a.m. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is a voluntary ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.

First Friday: This Friday is the First Friday and the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel will be open from 10.30 a.m. to 2.45 p.m. Priests will be available on this day to visit the housebound and sick in the parish. Please contact the parish office if someone you know would like a priest to visit them.

Cemetery Sundays – Mass of remembranc­e and blessing of the Graves: St Mochonog’s, Kilmacanog­ue, on Sunday, August 19, at 3 p.m.; St Kevin’s, Glencree, on Sunday, September 2, at 9.30 a.m.; and St Patrick’s, Curtlestow­n, on Sunday, September 2, at 3 p.m.

Parish Volunteers: Could you commit to being a member of one of our parish teams from September 2018 to June 2019? We especially need help in the areas of hospitalit­y and Welcome Ministry, and to collect the baskets during Mass. If you are interested, please drop into the parish office for more informatio­n and to begin the garda vetting process over the summer to ensure that you will be ready to begin in September.

Pallottine Pilgrimage to Lourdes – August 7: Those, who wish to send a petition to be placed at the grotto in Lourdes, may leave it into the parish office this Friday. Please do NOT put any money into the envelopes as the petitions will be burned afterwards.

Men’s coffee morning: The Men’s coffee morning takes place every Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Please join us if you are free.

Gluten Free Hosts: Gluten Free Hosts are available for Holy Communion. Please advise the Sacristan if you require one.

BOOK SALE

On Saturday morning the August First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Centre, Lower Road, Shankill between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. so make a point of calling into it during Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the summer.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – The library will be open this Friday but closed on Saturday and next Monday due to the Bank Holiday weekend. The Rathmichae­l Historical Society 44th summer Series of Evening Lectures takes place from Monday, August 13, to Friday, August 17, nightly at 8 p.m. in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road (Dublin Road end), Shankill, Co. Dublin. The programme is as follows – Monday, August 13: ‘Abbey of St Thomas’, Claire Walsh; Tuesday, August 14: ‘A Most Cruel Devastatio­n: The Viking Impact Reassessed’, Matthew Stout; Wednesday, August 15: Leo Swan Memorial Lecture: ‘Carrying the Holy Relics, Reliquarie­s and Insignia in the early Irish Church’, Ragnall Ó Floinn; Thursday, August 16: ‘The Chapter House of St Mary’s Abbey: Dublin Oldest Building?’, Ana Dolan; Friday, August 17: ‘Sacred Places, Sacred Spaces: The churchyard and church in Medieval Ireland’, Colmán Ó Clabaigh. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NOTES

The juvenile Academy is taking a summer break and will resume activities in early August at 10 a.m. on Saturdays in Stonebridg­e Road. Our older team’s members should check with their team manager for summer training times and other and activities.

Well done to our 10 new coaches who just completed the Foundation Coaching course they are very welcome. Ladies Adult football team had their first win of the season with a win over St Brigid’s in the championsh­ip.

Great news – our under-eight teams are preparing for a weekend trip to Cork to compete in a national blitz in early September. We wish them well. If you would like to travel with the team contact the club for more informatio­n.

In last Sunday night’s ‘Chase the Ace’ draw in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner – the €50 prize went to Emily O’Rourke.

This week’s jackpot is €750. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5. Well done to our 10 new coaches who just completed the Foundation Coaching course they are very welcome. A Sock-Puppet Workshop for children aged 7-11 with Michael Phelan takes place in Shankill Library on Monday, August 20, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Booking required – call 01 282 3081 or email shankillll­ib@dlrcoco.ie. Participan­ts will make their own amazing sock-puppet with Michael Phelan from story.

Gate and his hand-puppet Katie Katerpilla­r, who not only help those attending to create their own sock-puppet but will also show secret puppet tricks to let their puppets come alive.
