Enniskerry GAA ACTION

Enniskerry Junior Footballer­s had a good start to their 2018 Championsh­ip with a win over AGB Overall it was an improvemen­t on recent formwith good effort by all especially Reece Cope, Luke Dalton and Gavin Barton, Brendan Barton too had a good match despite juat arriving home from a holiday and announcing his engagement.

This Thursday Enniskerry Footballer­s are away to Hollywood at 7.30 p.m. in thr second game of their group. The Black and Amber lads will need to up their game alittle tighter at the back to defeat their very strong hosts.

BOXING MEDAL

Another Irish Boxing Title for Enniskerry Boxing Club. European Championn Dana Moorehouse once again had a 5-0 decision. The young Boxer is off to Hungary in the coming month to box in the World Championsh­ips all this despite having no clubhouse to train in.

CYCLE

Enniskerry YC will be holding a special cycle in the village on Saturday to raise funs just turn and pedal away on a stationart­y bike.

GOLF OUTING

There is still time to enter a team in the Enniskerry golf classic in Powerscour­t at the end of August it would be nice to see former players who now play with the small ball playing for Tthe GA A Juvenile Section.

Annual Blessing of graves – 2018: St Mochonog’s, Kilmacanog­ue, on Sunday, August 19, at 3 p.m.; St Kevin’s, Glencree, on Sunday, September 2, at 9.30 a.m.; and St Patrick’s, Curtlestow­n on Sunday, September 2, at 3 p.m.

Curtlestow­n Cemetery Clean Up: Due to dry weather and great work done by volunteers over the past week’s there is no need to work on cemetery this week.

Our Lady’s Island Pilgrimage: Takes place on Wednesday, August 15, bus will leave village at 11 a.m. and return approximat­ely 10.30 p.m. Stop for dinner on way home. Please contact parish office.

St Kevin’s Church, Glencree, Enniskerry: The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for the Healing of all Generation­s this Saturday at 4 p.m.

HISTORY SOCIETY

Meetings of the Enniskerry History Society will resume in October when the autumn 2018 programme will take place, and planning on this is currently under way.

The next events of interest for members are this Saturdays ‘Medals, Militaria and Collect- ables Fair’ organised by the Medal Society of Ireland which takes place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Knox Memorial Hall, Monkstown Village, Co. Dublin. Bring, buy, swap, free valuations and identifica­tion. All welcome – further informatio­n from 087 2447522 or 087 2344890 or visit msoi.eu and amp;data= and next Mondays ‘Railways of Shankill Historic Walk’ organised by Shankill Tidy Towns and led by local historian and author Rob Goodbody, departing at 2 p.m. from outside Shankill DART Station. ENNISKERRY LIBRARY

Opening hours for the library are – Tuesday and Friday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. New members to the library are always very welcome. On Saturday, August 18, local historian Michael Seery will present ‘Enniskerry Archives – Notes and stories from the Village’, a journey through the archives, at 11.30 a.m. – all welcome, admission free.

MEALS ON WHEELS

The Meals on Wheels service which operates in Enniskerry and Kilmacanog­ue, delivers hot meals every Tuesday and Thursday to older people in their homes. It’s an opportunit­y to connect with the community and provide a hot meal and social contact call to older people in the area. We are looking for volunteer drivers who can give up two or three hours twice a month to facilitate this much needed service. WALKING ASSOCIATIO­N

The Enniskerry Walking Associatio­n was formed in 2004 to protect traditiona­l walking routes in the area and to promote walking for recreation, for health, as a safe alternativ­e to car use, and to help us all to learn more about our locality.

Our popular Tuesday evening walks usually meet at the Spar in Enniskerry at 7 p.m. Saturday walks meet at 1.30 p.m. All, who are interested, adults or children, are most welcome. Walks vary in length but most last between one-and-a half and two-and-ahalf hours; some (but not all) involve a bit of climbing. Please wear appropriat­e warm and rain-proof clothing, and proper walking boots for the occasional muddy or rocky track. In the interests of walker’s comfort and safety participan­ts are asked to respect the directions of the walk leader and stay between the leader and the anchor person.

This coming Tuesdays Walk is: Killegar from Barnasling­an Wood, 2½ hours. Meet outside Spar at 7 p.m. or in Barnasling­an car park at, 7.15 p.m. Feel free just to turn up (sharp) on any of the Tuesday walks.

FESTIVAL

Enniskerry Festival takes place on Friday, September 7, and Sun- day, September 9, This year’s Festival will include Bagatelle playing in Monastery on evening of Friday, September 7. Tickets available from Powerscour­t Arms, Village Stores, Parting Glass and online at enniskerry­festival.ie.

The Victorian field day takes place on Sunday, September 9 – Stalls, Pony Rides and lots more. All in aid of Open Door and Enniskerry Parishes.

Kilcoole BINGO

Come join us for Monday Night Bingo in St Patrick’s Hall, Kilcoole. First game at 8 p.m. €10 per book (to include loose sheet and jackpot game). Extra loose sheet €1. Raffle Tickets on sale on the night. All welcome to attend.

COMMUNITY CENTRE

The centre is available for bookings (e.g. classes, meetings, birthday parties). Bookings can be made via email kilcoolecc@ gmail.com or by phone 01 2872017. The office is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed for lunch between 12.30 p.m and 1.15 p.m.

INDOOR BOWLS

Bowls takes place every Thursday evening at 8 p.m. in St Patrick’s/Forrester’s Hall. New members are welcome. Why not give it a try.

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

All are welcome to come along to the parent and toddler group at the community centre from 10.30 p.m. to midday every Wednesday. €2 per child.
