Ladies in the Blues at the Hot Spot venue

-

Bringing it back all home to where it started - Ladies in the Blues will do a couple of exclusive concerts in the intimate setting of The Hot Spot Music Club before heading off around the country on tour.

The first date is Friday, August 24, with tickets available at thehotspot.ie.

After sell-out shows at Cork Jazz Festival, Mermaid Arts Centre and standing ovations across the country, Ladies in the Blues takes you on a women’s journey through the blues.

From the gospel roots of the 1920s to vaudeville, jazz and blues rock - immerse yourself in songs by all those great women - Big Mama Thornton, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin, Bessie Smith and many more. Ladies in the Blues pays homage to these female artists who transformed the blues from local folk music into the art form it is today, bringing black culture into American main stream music.

Female blues singers brought black culture into the American mainstream and are the ‘Classic Women’ of the blues, making a significant contribution to the development of jazz and blues in popular music. Ladies in the Blues pays homage to these women, telling the story of the progression of the blues through song with Ireland’s leading blues divas and a band comprising Ireland’s finest blues musicians.

The show features singers Clara Rose, Jhil Quinn, Emma Nicolai, Grainne Hunt, and Flo McSweeney.
