Wicklow Traveller Group gets €2k from Applegreen

-

WICKLOW Travellers Group has received €2,000 in funding from the Applegreen Blossom Fund.

Wicklow Travellers’ Group was founded in 1992 to respond to the accommodation needs of Travellers. Their base is located at C.E.A.R.T. in Crinion Park, Wicklow town.

The group will use the €2,000 to expand on their already existing summer programme for children from the Traveller community, aged between seven and 18 years of age. The programme will offer a variety of physical and mental health activities that are both educational and recreational. They also intend to organise a number of trips, including to Wells House, Kia Ora Farm and fishing.

Up to 50 children aged under 12 will benefit from this programme, with the funding being used to support the various activities.

Wicklow Travellers Group is one of 62 community and voluntary youth projects across Ireland which were chosen from over 300 applicants to receive a total of €124,000 from the Applegreen Blossom Fund, which is a partnership between Applegreen and the Irish Youth Foundation (IYF).

Adrian Giffney, head of the Applegreen fund said: ‘Applegreen PLC are thrilled to focus on local, community-based projects offering support to children locally which is something we are passionate about. The Applegreen Blossom Fund is an innovative concept to help us create awareness of the importance of these projects for local communities.

‘ The fund gives local communities a voice to express what is needed for their young people’.
