Dementia-friendly garden to be unveiled in Arklow

-

ARKLOW’S newest community attraction will be officially opened on Friday, August 10.

‘Moments in Time’ is a Dementia friendly space originally created as part of the Bloom Festival earlier this year. After much discussion, it was decided that the garden would become a template for a permanent fixture in a chosen town and Arklow was picked as the ideal location.

The garden is a collaboration between Baltinglass-based landscape garden company Newtown Saunders Ltd; a university research centre, TrinityHaus; and a dementia training organisation, Sonas apc.

It is a gentle space that facilitates understanding, togetherness and connection with nature, drawing on a strong evidence-base of dementia-friendly design and the lived experience of dementia.

It features a short multi-sensory walk leading to a central seating area and a gallery installation comprising photographs that depict family, social roles and community as a reminder of the richness of human life and the many memories and skills that a person retains, despite dementia.

Minister Simon Harris will officially open the garden at Seaview Avenue at 12.30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. ABOVE: The Moments In Time: Dementia-Friendly Garden at Bloom in June
