Donard-The Glen get ambitions back on track

- TABLES

BLESSINGTON DONARD-THE GLEN 3-8 4-9

DONARD-THE GLEN got their JCFC back on track on Friday night in Blessington with this fourpoint win over the Blues.

Donard-The Glen led from the start and never relinquished the lead and led 1-5 to 3-3 at halftime with their goals coming from Tommy Dwyer, Nicky Donovan and Eddie Flynn.

The younger and less experienced Blessington side struggled against a Donard team backboned by Colm Toomey at full-back, Brendan Daly at number six and Pat Flynn in the middle of the field.

In spite of this however, Blessington, who had been six points down at one stage in the first half, added points in the latter half of the first half from James Jackson, Eoin Higgins, Adam Murphy and Stephen Willoughby to leave four between the sides at half-time.

The Blues got off to a great start in the second half and by the 20th minute had reduced the deficit to one point with Donard leading 3-6 to 2-8.

Jordan McGarr with two and James Jackson with a point together with a goal from Stephen Willoughby brought the Blues back into the game however, Donard-The Glen regrouped and Blessington failed to score again until the 30th minute.

In the meantime, a goal on 23 minutes into the second half by Eddie Flynn put Donard on their way and subsequently Des Mann, James Egar and Darren O’Neill added points to seal victory for Donard-The Glen.

Donard-The Glen will be pleased with their performance, they have a tight defence well marshalled by Colm Toomey and up front scoring forwards particularly Des Mann picked up 1-4 on the night.

There was not too much disappointment for Blessington as this was the first year for several years that the club has managed to field three teams and great credit goes to Peter Behan, Stephen Doyle and Geoff Elliot as they look after the Junior ‘B’ and Junior ‘C’ championship sides.
