Late nesting birds survey

THE public are being asked to submit records of late nesting activities so BirdWatch Ireland can build on their current knowledge of these important young breeders.

The group is eager to hear about any birds displaying territorial or nesting behaviours in shrubs or hedges. Yellowhammer, Greenfinch, Goldfinch and Wrens are just some late nesting birds.

Typically, young breeders reproduce later in the season than older ones, and have lower reproductive success so they will need special protection in order to fledge population sustaining broods.

Information workshops are being provided by BirdWatch Ireland for those interested. Records can be submitted to; birdwatchireland.ie/surveys or biodiversityireland.ie/latenestingbirdsurvey.
