Construction to begin on new Greystones CNS in two weeks
CONTRACTORS are expected to start construction on Greystones Community National School in two weeks time.
Chair of the board of Greystones CNS, Jennifer Whitmore said that the contract for the school build is 44 weeks, so the school should be in a position to open in time for September 2019.
‘ This is a big milestone for our school,’ said Cllr Whitmore. ‘It’s five years since I began to work with local parents and other politicians to get a new primary school for the locality, and its fantastic to see it become a reality. The new school will be state-of-the-art and will house 24 classrooms and two special needs units.’
There was some concern earlier in the summer that there may be delays because the return date for tenders had been changed.
The school is currently located in temporary buildings at Greystones Rugby Club. In April, the school was granted permission for further portacabins in order to facilitate an intake of two classes in September 2018.
The school opened its doors in September 2015 in a temporary classroom at Temple Carrig secondary school facilitating 19 pupils.
