MINING HERITAGE HILL WALK
A Wicklow Mining Heritage Hill Walk on Saturday, August 18, will take in all the significant lead mining sites in the county.
The walk starts at Glendasan and finishes at Baravore, Glenmalure, and will also involve informative talks on Wicklow’s mining heritage.
Those taking part are required to bring suitable hillwalking gear, lunch, snacks and a drink. Registration is essential and the walk is limited to 25 people. The event is being hosted by Glenmalure Pure Mile/Adopt a Monument Committee and Glens of Lead.
The walk starts at 9 a.m. and is expected to finish at 5.30 p.m.. The meeting point is Baravore Carpark in Glenmalure.
There is a €10 which includes transport from Baravore to the starting point in Glendasan. The walk isn’t buggy or wheelchair friendly. THIS week, two pinnacle events in the Wicklow Tennis Club calendar get under way, namely the Ashvale Crèche Junior Championships and the Sinnott Skoda Senior Championships.
There promises to be plenty of action-packed and exciting tennis every day up until Saturday, August 25. The junior finals day is this Saturday, August 18, with the schedule running all day and finishing up with presentation of prizes at approximately 6 p.m.
There will be no social tennis next Monday, August 20, due to all the courts been in use for the senior championships but it will resume the following Monday at 7.30 p.m.
The Dublin Lawn Tennis Council Senior League starts on Sunday, September 2, and this year the club has four ladies’ and three men’s teams participating. Members aged 14 and over who would like to register an interest in playing the DLTC Floodlight League should email their name to Sinéad at info@wicklowtennisclub.com.
