ANOTHER FINE MESS

Five more red cards after row erupts during SFC game

-

WICKLOW GAA officials are faced with sorting out another disciplinary mess this week after a brawl during the Renault Senior Football Championship meeting of Avondale and Éire Óg Greystones resulted in five red cards being flashed, three for the Greystones men, two for the ’Dales.

The latest row comes in the aftermath of a bust up between Rathnew and Ashford which is being worked through at the present time.

Mick Murphy of the Wicklow C.C.C. told the Bray People that Ashford have had their hearings after receiving five suspensions ranging from one-match to twomatch bans.

The Hearings committee found that one Ashford player could be cleared of his suspension after being found innocent of any wrongdoing following a review of the video evidence. The four remaining players are serving or have served their suspension.

Murphy said that the Rathnew hearings would be heard this week, possibly on Thursday night, and that eight members of the Intermediate panel that played Ashford are facing suspensions as handed down by the C.C.C. Rathnew are due to face Donard-The Glen in Roundwood on Saturday evening at 5pm.

At the time of going to print no referee’s report from the game between Éire Óg Greystones and Avondale had been received by Mick Murphy and the C.C.C. so he was unable to offer any comment on the brawl that took place in Pearse’s Park. There is no video evidence from the game in question.
