Mick Smith RIP

-

Very sad news hit Stilebawn last week when news spread that Michael Smith had passed away peacefully on Wednesday, after an illness, stoically borne, at Blackrock Clinic, where he was tenderly cared for by the doctors and nurses of the Nightingale Unit.

Michael was the much-loved husband of Carmel, cherished dad of Anne-Marie, Rachel and Rebecca and dear, granddad of Conor, Michael, Ellen, Jessie, Jodie, Scarlett and Vienna and will be sadly missed by everyone, including his sons-in-law, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends.

Michael reposed at Colliers Funeral Home on Friday evening and his Requiem Mass took place on Saturday morning in the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Enniskerry, followed by burial at St Mochonog’s Cemetery, Kilmacanogue.

Formerly from Cavan, Michael moved to Stilebawn in the mid-70s and he was instrumental in getting the water mains along the road, as most had wells, and, while it is something that we now take for granted, his hard work along with his friend Jimmy Conroy will always be remembered by us all, which we are grateful for. He was a gentle fun-loving man and you always got great banter out of Mick when you visited him and calls to his house on Halloween were always special as Mick and Carmel made a great effort for everyone.

While all his family must be broken hearted at this sad time, we all know the wonderful care Carmel gave Mick these past few years as his health weakened and she is especially in our prayers during this sad time. Farewell Mick, Stilebawn has lost a pure gentleman, rest in peace.
